Address book conversion: ADR to TAB or CSV-separated

This page converts Opera contact list format to TAB or CSV separated for printing out or importing to other programs. Updated to support Opera 7's address book (converting earlier versions' formats should still work).

  1. Click the "Choose"-button below to locate your Opera address book file. The location depends on whether Opera is installed for one or multiple users. To find out, open Opera's "About Opera" screen, scroll down to the "Paths" section and look for the "Opera Directory" setting. The file is called "Contacts" with a (possibly hidden) extension .adr.
  2. Select your output format:

  3. Click

Privacy statement: the file will be automatically processed and then removed from the server. The E-mail addresses and other information are not made available to me or anyone else during this process, and not harvested, archived, traded or used in any way.

What about folders? Could you implement checkbox for them?

From erik     on 2005-01-23 14:34:55

seems to work nicely, except your page does not show up nicely while using opera 7?

From Tomaš Kubeš     on 2005-01-28 12:19:30

It's a pitty that the script doesn't support czech characters.

From GeorgeP     on 2005-03-08 10:09:12

As I don't use CZech charaters, works fine for me. Thank you!

From Juergen     on 2005-03-14 03:58:23

From Sophie     on 2005-06-17 07:06:15

From Evan     on 2005-06-17 13:59:03

Brilliant. The more you give away in this world, the more that comes back to you. Thanks for the gift.

Pretty cool. But show an error message if the file is not uploaded, like so:

if ($_FILES["convert"]["size"] > 0) {
} else {

From Erland     on 2005-09-08 02:01:35

Not sure if there is more to this than I'm getting, but it only converted about 10 of my 80-100 contacts it seems? Any ideas?

From Hallvord     on 2005-09-08 02:07:05

Very odd, I have not heard of such problems. If you could send me the file by E-mail I will investigate.

From UK     on 2005-09-16 15:51:30

Thanks for the tool!
I wonder however if there's a way to get all the data out of the datasets, not just the name and mail address?
I need to import all Opera contact data to a crm app.

From misza_PL     on 2005-10-06 14:11:56

From Jason     on 2006-02-08 08:46:07

Beautiful.. got all my contacts (780) from opera into outlook and sync'd with the blackberry :)

From Hal     on 2006-04-22 08:04:10

I've tried the conversion without success. The adr file was moved from the default location to another. I don't know if the file made it to your server or not. I did not get an error message, nothing happened.

From :(     on 2006-06-14 10:07:15

Doesn't work well with Opera8.5

From paolo carbone from Rome     on 2006-08-01 07:51:30

But I have had a lot of problem with the CSV file created. I have copied the contents of this file in an old CSV file, and so GMAIL has imported my contacts....
Furthermore I found that Gmail knows if a contact already is in ...

is it possible to convert outlook csv to opera adr?

From Mike Schwartz     on 2008-03-30 09:42:41

Great service, thanks VERY much! To save folders I just opened the Opera contacts folder in the main window (tools-contacts), selected the entries from each folder, and used file-save selected as. Generated a separate file for each folder in Opera.

Hey !

Thank you for this very useful tool !!
It's a pity that Opera nor Mozilla developped this as one of the import formats !

Thanks again Hallvord Reiar Michaelsen Steen !!!

Many thanks!!

The mapping is becoming a problem in both tab
or CSV format. Outlook is not able to
understand the mapping sequence, and hence
importing blank contacts.

Would it be possible for you to send the script adr2scv?
I do not like any personal info going onto the Internet.
Best regards,

Hello Hallvord,

I hope you can help me.
I converted my Opera contact file through your website to import it into my smartphone which worked fine.
Later I discovered I must have done something wrong because it turned out my contact file had disappeared and I can't find it anymore.
Now, I still have the converted file that I saved as an Excel file.
Do you of any way to re-convert it back to a Opera .adr file?
If you do you would make me very happy!

Thanks for your response in advance,

From Jbj     on 2012-06-16 19:53:32

Hi! I used Nirsoft's OutlookAddressBookView tool to export my enterprise address book to CSV and then converted it into Opera format using this site - around 1200 items. It works like a charm, thank you!

From Rose-Marie Ullman     on 2014-12-10 13:04:49

after I clicked 'Send', all the addresses
appeared as a long list, which I now saved as
a WORD (.docx) document.

But I need to have this list in my browser
(Chrome), clickable.
